John Lander – The Photographer behind Asia Images

John Lander Asia Images

One of the best photographers I have come across is John Lander. He is the photographer behind Asia Images and is based in Japan with a passion for Japanese gardens, onsen, cuisine and festivals. Credits include photos and articles published by Travel+Leisure, TIME Magaine and Forbes among others. Client list: McGraw-Hill, Hachette Media, Apple Computers, Twentieth-Century Fox.

He has a massive selection of images from all of the South East Asia region and it is a pleasure to wonder through his collection and be taken on a journey around the Orient.

He also has a very detailed and well visited blog at asiaimages.blogspot.com which is well worth a good read. Follow this link to be taken to Asia Images and below you will find just a few examples of his work.

Devotional Music, Bhaktapur

Devotional Music, Bhaktapur - the songs of Dapha music are devotional songs based on classical ragas. Dapha music is played by bands known as Dapha Khalah. According to the ragas certain songs are played at certain season or time of day. The songs generally narrate or depict the mood of the particular season.

Durbar Square at Sunrise, Bhaktapur

Bhaktapur Durbar Square at Dawn - the workmanship of the temples here rivals those of Kathmandu and Patan. Durbar Square has a large open brick paved area in the centre surrounded by temples arranged in a harmonious layout for which UNESCO named Bhaktapur Durbar Square a World Heritage Site.

Yubatake Kusatsu

Kusatsu is the largest natural hot springs in Japan with more than a hundred springs gushing from the Earth which produce, altogether, more than 36,000 litres per minute. This abundance can be seen in the Yubatake the hot spring fields in the centre of town. Kusatsu's long history as a flourishing spa town is a well-known resort for recovering from illness or surgery.
